I was honored to contribute a single block to Nathan Ford's "Celebration Quilt for Kim," a project celebrating Kim's tenure as a teacher. This quilt holds special significance for me, as Kim has been an influential figure in my journey as an artist. The project was led by Nathan, who gathered participants through an open call on social media. In unveiling the quilt, Nathan shared:
"Quilts cannot be separated from community. Throughout history, people would gather together to quilt, oftentimes celebrating their friendship, engaging politically, or remembering the lives that impacted them. As a quilter now, I feel so far removed from this—like many, my quilt practice revolves deeply in the self. However, this feels so strange. Let’s all make more quilts together. Let’s make more quilts for the people who have impacted our lives. Let’s support each other instead of being siloed in our practices."
The quilt was a collaboration with contributions from Erin Barchet, Sascha Weatherman, Sarah Mcmurry, Hadley Clark, Sabina Rose, Emily Chase, Debra Smith, Gwen Murphy, Miranda Pratt, Jordan Geiger, Olivia Mills, Char Schwall, @Dolmaaaan, @raspberry.maret on Instagram, Jessica Barbosa, and myself. Together, we created something that celebrates Kim's dedication to her students and her craft.
